Nearly 60% of internet Basques never have made a purchase online
Only 23.7% of people who have been recently connected to the Internet have made a purchase online in the last three months, while another 17% have ever bought, but not in the last quarter, and 59.4% have not done ever, as taken from the "Overview of the Information Society: Euskadi 2007-2008," a publication produced by the Eustat.
In terms of products or services purchased, travel and accommodation out for vacation (43%), followed by long-range of sports equipment and clothing (18.1%), products for the home (10.2%), books and magazines (9.9%), electronics products (9.2%) and tickets for shows (8.5%), among the most prominent.
In 40.5% of cases, Internet Basques spend between 100 and 500 electronic books in euros, a figure similar to those who fail to spend 100 euros on such payments (40.4%). In contrast, only 19.1% of cases payments are made over 500 euros on the Internet.
By territories, Alava users are those making smaller purchases of property, followed by Gipuzkoa and Biscay. The latter highlighted by purchasing intermediate value between 100 and 500 euros, more than the rest of their neighbors Basques.
Security is the main reason explaining the low propensit
y of the Basques to use the Internet as a means of purchase. It is true that 69.5% of those who have made a purchase electronic security does not pose much problem (24% believes that there is a lot of security and 45.5% fairly), but 23% believed that there is little security and 7.5% spoke of serious security problems.
DIFFERENT PERCEPTIONS OF SAFETY
However, it seems that the perception of security that depend on many variables. Thus, men tend to see more security than women, young people rely more than adults and the elderly, and those with high school or college education than those with primary education. Thus, the profile of the buyer on the Internet is that of a Basque man between 15 and 34 years, middle and higher educated and employed.
Given the differences by sex, men do electronic music and musical instruments, cars, motorcycles and accessories, as well as software and video games while women are more products for the home, and related service activities holiday travel and accommodation.
While not all end up buying through the web, 61.6% of Internet users have been informed of the Basque Country ever to conduct online purchases, with only 38.4% the percentage of those who have not. By province, Vizcaya and Gipuzkoa are the most reported.
