Fifty years' of research on violent television and movies has shown that there are several negative effects of watching such things. Because video games are a newer medium, there is less research on them than there is on TV and movies. But today the whole world is having this question that what effect violent computer games have on children psyche?

However, studies by psychologists such as Dr. Douglas Gentile and Dr. Craig Anderson indicate it is likely that violent video games may have even stronger effects on children's aggression. Reason for this aggression is that the games are highly engaging and interactive, the games reward violent behavior and also because children repeat these behaviors over and over as they play.

Mostly teenagers play violent games and they like games that include murders, blood, theft, robbery and things like that. Although the first video games emerged in the late 1970s, violent video games came of age in the 1990s, with the killing games Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Wolfenstein 3D. In all three games, the main task is to wound, or kill opponents. The graphics (e.g., blood) and sounds (e.g., screams) of these games were cutting edge at the time of their introduction. By the end of the 20th century, even more graphically violent games became available to players of all ages (Walsh, 1999).

Numerous educational
, nonviolent strategy and sports games exist, but the most heavily marketed and consumed games are violent ones. Such type of games results in aggressive thoughts and negative feelings. When they play violent games again and again those actions that they are performing in games places an impact on their mind because repetition of any action places impact on unconscious.

Repeated violent game playing results in learning, rehearsal and reinforcement of aggression related knowledge structure, it results in aggressive belief and attitudes that creates an aggressive perceptual schemata that further results in aggressive expectation schemata which creates an aggressive behavior scripts that results in aggression desensitization. Finally it results in increase in aggressive personality.

It is a need of an hour that video game companies should make such type of games that builds a positive behavior of children, they used to construct such behavior of children that is cooperative and caring for a society then to develop aggressive and violent behavior. The World Today, Doug Lowenstein, president of the Interactive Digital Software Association, said, ˇ°I think the issue has been vastly overblown and overstated, often by politicians and others who don't fully understand, frankly, this industry. There is absolutely no evidence, none, that playing a violent video game leads to aggressive behavior.
